The Bible speaks about a man named Job who was upright; he
feared God and hated evil. Job was so righteous in God’s eyes that one day when
Satan came before the Lord, God asked Satan “Have you considered my servant
Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who
fears God and shuns evil.” (Job 1:8)
God was so pleased with Job and his actions. And like a
father is pleased with an obedient son, He boasted to Satan in Job’s obedience
to Him.
Here at Asha, there is a seven-year-old boy named Pritam. Pritam lives at Asha because
his mother is too poor to take care of him herself. Although Pritam is just as silly
and playful as you might expect any little boy to be, he is no ordinary
seven-year -old. The difference between Pritam and most other boys is that
Pritam believes in Jesus and knows that there is no other god besides the Lord
Jesus. That means he knows that no other gods should even have a place in our
lives.
When there was a
chicken pox outbreak at Asha, Pritam was the first child to get it and, in an
attempt to keep the other children healthy, Pritam was sent back home until he
was well; this was all good in his eyes since he absolutely LOVES his mother. Soon
after Pritam went home, his mother wanted to take him to the Hindu temple so
that the Hindu witch doctor could heal him (which is a cultural norm for
Indians.) But Pritam wouldn’t go with her. Pritam told his mother that he could
not go because he is a Christian now. Because he knows the truth, he risked his
mother, whom he loves so much, becoming angry with him and his unwillingness to
follow the Indian customs for Jesus’ name. He also tore down all the idols in
their home as he told his mom there is only one God and His name is Jesus!
I have no doubt that God was in heaven taking pride and
boasting in Pritam’s obedience and hatred for evil to Satan. And I too want to
live my life in a way that God can say about me, “Have you considered my
servant Kristen?”
