Tug of War

It seems as if He has been using children to teach me different things on this trip. Last week I had an eye-opening experience with a three year old boy. This boy was in the class I was helping to teach and is notorious for misbehaving. That day he proceeded to rip the strap of a little girl’s dress after she took a toy away from him. This boy had done various other minor acts of violence that morning including hitting and pinching. (This culture is a violent culture and it shows in its littlest ones).
Well a little while after this altercation this boy came up to me asking for the toy I had in my hands. For a split second I thought about not giving it to him but then I heard the word “grace” in my head and I realized: these boys and girls are just children. I cannot get angry or indignant with them. They do not know any better. What they do need is love- love that will correct them and show them the way and love that will accept them for who they are. They need His love.
The things I do on this trip need to be motivated out of love and done through His grace which is always sufficient. Tjis experience showed me how my actions need to be the overflow of me resting in Him and loving Him.
