What’s waiting on the inside of the Gate

Last weekend some of my friends and I took a weekend trip to Mumbai. It started off with us missing our bus to the train station, a 12 hour train ride there, getting there at 4:30 in the morning going to the Gateway of India in the pitchblack, finding out we were standing in front of the Taja Hotel just as it started to pour down rain. With no place to go and nothing to do until 10, we decided to go into the hotel cafe and have a cup of chai, this was not what I was expecting on our weekend trip! After breakfast we joined the Indian laughing club as we passed them on...

Th greatest faith I have ever seen

Last week one of my friends and I went into the slums next to one of the preschools where we are working. As we were walking around a lady (we will call here Sue) came out of her house to greet us. There is so much I would love to tell you about Sue and her family, but I just can not even come close to bringing it full justice in a couple paragraphs. So I will just tell you a little bit. She is a believer, but her husband is not and she is not allowed to be a believer, so she does not “believe” in front of him. She reads when she is at work since she is not allowed to at home....

Got inked…

So this past week the wonderful ladies we are working with gave us henna tattoos- known as mehendi in India. Also this week, our father also brought me to Psallm 139: 13-14. I have heard these verses many times but I do not think I had ever really meditated on what they say about God and about us. Watching the girls do henna on us reminded me of some of these truths. Here are some parallels I found:   Each tattoo is hand-drawn, intricate, and detailed. Each is thought-out and unique. Every time one is drawn, it is never exactly the same as one before it even though the same person may...

It’s not about YOU!

Lessons of the week: Don’t miss opportunites by contemplating God’s will. Let me elaborate. God has a will. It will come to pass…whether we sit there and try to figure it out first and pray hard about it–it will still come to pass. I say this not to take away from the power of prayer or the power of thoelogical discussions, but truthfully it doesn’t matter what we deduce from our contemplation or our discussion or our thoughts on the matter…God has a will and it will come to pass. I do not argue the importance of these things, but just wish to point out...

Just Do Something

Far too often we, as Christians sit around and wonder what God’s will is.  The truth is that we are God’s will and are daily fulfilling His plan whether we realize it or not.  So many of us are completely caught up in figuring out precisely what God wants us to do and say that we end up missing many opportunities.  It’s not that complicated– if it’s in line with His heart and could or will bring Him glory, then just do it.  Don’t contemplate and pray and listen and seek advice from other Christians and not actually do anything. ...

“YOU HAVE BEEN SET FREE!”

Ok, so we are in India..and ya my team is not really doing what we wanted to. But, no problems we are still having a blast at teaching pre-school and meeting people in the slums. I love it here and I am going to find it hard to go home in 3 weeks..But anywho, lets talk about my dad real quick.   So the other night the power went out at the flat we are staying at. (this sort of thing is normal for us so its what ever) But when it came back on around 12:30ish my roommates and I are dead asleep. And the fan turns on then I hear our balcony door slam close and feel this pressure on my...
