Washed by the Water

My last blog was a little heavy so here’s a quick one to lighten the mood.   On Fridays a small group of believers gathers in this small building in the slums. They have pr@yer and w0rship together and this week, my team was invited to join. A few days earlier I’d mentioned that I would love to wash people’s feet, just like J3sus did, and tell them all about the significance of it. Well last night I had the opportunity to do so.   The group was mostly women and young girls, so that worked to our advantage. After they w0rshiped I stood up and carefully told them...

Beloved, Be Loved

This week I have not been continuing to give up my lunches that I talked about in my last post, but I have been trying to discover if that is what was wanted and asked of me. It has taken me the entire week to figure out the answer. I have been frustrated and stressed out about this; I am being broken and molded into a new character not of my own but of his. It is beautiful, but more heart wrenching than I anticipated. What I heard in the midst of a thousand voices and directions in my mind was, “beloved, rest and be loved.” I have been too busy talking things out in my...

Bond and Bondage

It’s interesting to me to think of the many different aspects of the word “bond.” In the past few weeks I have bonded with these girls on my team. I know them. We are together every moment of everyday. They are my family away from my real family. In a crowd, they are safety. In the same sense, I want to bond with the people here. I want to build relationships. I want to build friendships and make a difference. I want to see lives change. However, at the same time I have been learning a lot about bondage lately. We all are held down by something. Sin is such an all...

Thus far

On our 16 hr train ride from Bangalore to Goa, I began to reflect on the journey I’ve taken thus far and how real everything began to look. I’ve crossed the Atlantic Ocean, experienced squatting at a public restroom, avoided eye contact with Indian men, rode on rickshaws, bargained with merchants on Commercial street, tasted authentic Indian cuisine, praised His name at a Hindi church, and witnessed cattle meandering the streets. Now, I am here in Bogmalo Beach, Goa where I’ll be staying for the next month. I look forward to what’s to come but also savoring every...

A Lunch for a Life

Last Thursday when we were eating our amazing Indian dinner at the guest house where we are staying, I started thinking about the thousands of people around me that are lucky if they get one meal a day. I felt as though I was being convicted, convicted of eating too much. Why should I eat three meals a day as I watch people around me starving to death. I felt as though I was being called to give up one meal a day to someone else who needs it a whole lot more than I do. After all, what is mine, isn’t really mine, it belongs to him, the one who gave it to me in the first place. And...

B for Bat

It’s so hard to summarize all that’s been happening here because each day is such an adventure unlike anything I’ve ever experienced.  However, I had a day a couple of days ago that pretty much encapsulates my life so here we go.   So a bit of a back story: I think it was the first night we were in Goa and my roommates (Lindsey and Kari) and I were settling into our new home for the next few weeks.  We felt incredibly blessed as we turned on the fan and opened all the windows/doors and began to cool down a bit (Goa is wayyyy hotter and more humid than...
