Something I have always struggled with is being disciplined; whether or not that meant in school, with my relationship with God, or anything else. I get distracted easily and other things become more important. I admire people that are extremely disciplined in everything they do and I have been striving for that recently.
Last week we rented a car, drove a little ways and then hopped on a boat and went into the town of Old Goa. Our mission was simply this: to pray. We visited a few (gorgeous!) temples and did what we call prayer walks. Just walking and having a conversation with God and praying over the people there, that they would come to know Him, the one true God.
By the time we left the first temple, I was in awe. The discipline they have to worship their gods seriously blew me away. They are so obedient to whatever their gods are asking of them. They are willing to spend all day at a temple and pray to them. They bring them offerings. Their gods don’t even give them anything in return and yet they choose to worship and obey. It boggles my mind how I can’t even manage to give that much to God, when he has already given so much to me.
It broke my heart knowing that they are spending so much time worshipping these idols, when I know that there is something so much better out there. I know that they could gain so much if they just put their obedience and discipline in the right direction. They could have a loving father (something this country isn’t very used to), someone that will never leave nor forsake them, joy in their hearts and best of all: eternal life.
As I was walking around praying and just having conversation with God, he was telling me this: imagine if we, as Christians, were that disciplined. If we obeyed God in everything and spent as much time in prayer as these people do, imagine what God could do through us! That is something I am challenging myself with, and I challenge you guys with as well. The more we work together for the glory of God the better he can work through us.
This is the first temple we visited.
