When thinking about what to write my blog about this week, all that kept coming to mind was the absolutely ridiculous dreams I have been having recently.
In American, I don’t normally remember my dreams unless they are really strange, but for some reason my ones recently have been quite memorable. But let me preface this blog by saying that my malaria pills do not have strange dreams as a side effect so do not blame it on that.
The first dream I remember having here was way back in Bangalore during the first week of our trip and it was about Wal-Mart. I don’t remember the details, but I remember being so excited about pop-tarts and cheese!
But in the past week and a half, I have had a series of dreams about Wal-Mart and/or American food in general. The main recurring theme between these dreams has been muffins. I have had four dreams now dealing specifically with buying muffins. This is quite interesting to me because I really don’t eat that many muffins in the States although I do enjoy them. The restaurant I work at, Mimi’s Cafe, is known for their muffins and I worked there for the month before coming on this trip so that could possibly be an influencer in the dreams, but even at work, I don’t eat that many muffins.
Another main factor in these dreams is the aisles of Wal-Mart, which light up like Christmastime in these dreams of mine. It’s as if I am at Disneyworld when I go to Wal-Mart and quite frankly, Wal-Mart isn’t that great, I kind of wish these dreams were about Target instead because that would be more sophisticated. Apparently for me though, Wal-Mart is my paradise.
Besides muffins, I have dreamed alot about Better Cheddars. I don’t know how many of my readers have had Better Cheddars, but if you like Cheez-It’s or Goldfish at all, then you would simply adore Better Cheddars. They are the best cracker I’ve ever had in the world and I eat them by the box, not by the handful. 3 days ago, I dreamed that I found Better Cheddars in India and paid 315 rupees for them!!!! That is equivalent to more than 6 USD and I bought 3 boxes of them and felt no shame. When I woke up that morning, I thought about how I would actually spend that much money for these crackers if indeed I saw them here.
After having these recurring dreams involving Banana Chocolate Chip and Blueberry Muffins and Better Cheddars, I have come to realize how much I love American food! It’s weird to me that I obviously miss and unconsciously desire all of these snacks because since coming to India, I eat more junk food than I ever did before. My top two food groups are cookies and mentos, well besides the rice of course, so I should not crave muffins of all things.
Well that’s a fun little tidbit about my dreams and food habits here in India, if anyone is going to be at the airport when we return and would really like to bless me, any flavor of muffin would be most appreciated!
