You have taught me to say it is well with my soul, whatever my lot!
We trust so much in things of this world, and lean on them for love, security, hope, and happiness. But all these things can be taken away in an instant. We ourselves are only a breath, a passing shadow.
“You do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life?
For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.
Instead you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that’ “
-James 4: 14-15
We exist for the Father’s glory, and for His will. And He is the only thing that can truly satisfy our souls.
I have learned how to praise God in the storm, trusting in His sovereign will. When earthly love failed, and when my life changed completely, I found myself exclaiming: “It is well with my soul!” Because His will is mine, and the Lord has His hand on my life.
After the storm calmed, the peace from the Lord was overwhelming. And I was so in awe of God’s goodness.
As we are in our final week in India, getting ready to leave, I know that this is the Lord’s perfect timing and I am hopeful in the next chapter of my life. Because I know my God is the same yesterday, today and forever. So come what may, it is well with my soul.
