“The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” John 10:3-5
We had a sixteen hour train ride to our current location and while trekking through the beautiful Indian countryside, I noticed a flock of sheep standing still in a nearby field. The entire herd was gathered together just standing, waiting. Then, their shepherd came running past them and as he passed them, he turned around and called to them to follow him and without thinking, all of the sheep began following their good shepherd through the field. This image gave me a really clear picture of how I need to be in relation to my shepherd. I need to wait until he speaks and without hesitation or planning or doubt–MOVE!
I am learning to discern the voice of the Lord from the many other voices that inflitrate my life. If I am truly a follower of Him, then I should only be sensitive to His voice and not even hear other ones. I want to be a sheep, wandering and waiting for the direction that my shepherd so eagerly desires to give to me. I want to not be led astray by other voices and never be scared to follow the one true voice.
