It all starts with an
expectation. A unvoiced desire goal or a need that we believe will occur or be
meet in a certain way at a certain way. We all have them and most of the time
we don’t even know that we have expectations until they are not meet.
I arrived in Atlanta for a 5
day training camp before my team departed to India. Before making it to Atlanta
I had training camp all planned out. Where we would be staying, how we would
get there, I even had thought about where we would be sleeping.
After all the teams had arrived in Atlanta, all the teams
were given a task. Little did we know that this task would forever change paradise for all of us. The task: as a
team make your way down town Atlanta to the Safe house. On the pre allotted
budget of $ 20. 00 my team of 6 made our way downtown.
My team arrived at Safe house only to
find out that it was a safe house also known as shelter for the homeless
community of Atlanta. There were men and women from all over and from all
different kinds of backgrounds waiting in line for a hot meal. My first
thoughts were fear but of heartbreak.
After being assigned a room at the
shelter and feed dinner we were
givin our next task, to live on the streets on Atlanta like the homeless do
ever night. With a pair of gloves
for each person and a blanket for my team of 7 to share we set out to the
streets of downtown.
This was an adventure that no ones dreams to take. It was
hard, we were pushed outside of our comfort zone in every direction. It was a
cold night and very windy and I must say the streets of Atlanta are not the
cleanest. But the 12 hours that we were on the streets were 12 of the most God
glorifying hours of my life. After having to fight to keep warm and walking
around by the end of the night I was tired and my body hurt. My dreams of
Paradise had changed, they were no longer that of tropical islands but that of
a warm place to lay my head and know that I was safe. I met men that have lived
on the streets all of their lives and were happy, filled with joy and wanted to
talk. This for me was were God was working on my heart I knew that I had only a
few hours to be out there and I already hated the way people were out enjoying
a nice sit down dinner or checking in to nice hotels for the night. all while
walking past people who have not eaten in days.
God has started to tear my world apart about and is breaking my heart for what breaks his.
