Hello all!

Hello all, Hope you guys are doing well!! Right now we are in Goa, India working in a specific slum each day. There are many different things that are going on in this slum. First, there is a man who is starting up a clinic. It’s been open for about 2 weeks now so there is a lot that needs to be done to organize how it will be ran. The building that was available for the clinic is a small cement building, but there has been a lot of use out of it so far. Secondly, in the clinic, there is a nutrition program for the little kids and then for the women in the community. Here, many people...

Good morning teacher

All i’ve wanted since we got to India was to just get started working with the women and children of Goa. Finally a week after landing, we did! After taking two crowed, hot, and smelly buses, we arrived at the community where we’ll be working the next two months.   As soon as we set foot on the ground, we were surrounded by kids, running up to us with huge smiles and open hands shouting “good morning teacher, good morning teacher”. All wanting to shake your hand and give you hugs. They are so hungry for attention and love; there are never enough hugs, piggy...

We’re Here!

It’s definitely a different culture, from women and men seeming to associate only when married or buying things to the beautiful jewelry for less than a dollar.  A few things have initially caught my eye: Their medians are made up of cows sun bathing in the road. Their food is very tasty. The women are unbelievably beautiful and kind. Washed clothes are impossible to dry during monsoon weather. Everything is colorful. We consider ourselves lucky when we find toilets with toilet paper (so yes, we bring our own; we will keep some things from our own culture :)), sometimes I...

Intriguing! India is definitely intriguing!  From the moment I stepped off the plane I was intrigued and it just kept getting better.  From the squatty potties, to the dogs and cows roaming the streets, to the women in beautiful eye catching saris, to the mysterious head bobble.  The culture is simply intriguing, just waiting to be explored! Nasty! What you say? I shouldn’t be saying that a word that describes India is nasty thats what you’re thinking right?? Well I’m sorry but there really are somethings in India that are nasty! Such as stepping in a bunch...

Through the Monsoon

The plane lands and the view from the window is total darkness, but we know we have arrived safely by the comforting sound of the rain just on the other side.  As we awoke Wednesday morning. Rain. Went into town. Rain. Had dinner together. Rain. Went to bed. Rain. Woke up Thursday. Rain… You get the idea, there is a lot of rain.  It rains day in and day out.  It rains. All the time.  Matter of fact it is five in the morning and I am the only one up. Sitting in my dark room surrounded by my sleeping team, the one sound I hear is the subtle fall of the rain...

The Adventure Begins:)

The adventure began with a trek through atlanta to the community safe house which would also be our home for the night. After days full of team building ( dont worry, I know what your thinking and no we did not do any of those obnoxious trust fall, obstacle course games) we spent time getting to know each other and stretching the faith of our team through each other. We danced, cried, created, ate, slept, sweat, and took hose showers together. Preparing us for how the next three months would be..who knew it would be so stinky. This video was a summary of our night spent in atlanta. Well...
