Got inked…

So this past week the wonderful ladies we are working with gave us henna tattoos- known as mehendi in India. Also this week, our father also brought me to Psallm 139: 13-14. I have heard these verses many times but I do not think I had ever really meditated on what they say about God and about us. Watching the girls do henna on us reminded me of some of these truths. Here are some parallels I found:   Each tattoo is hand-drawn, intricate, and detailed. Each is thought-out and unique. Every time one is drawn, it is never exactly the same as one before it even though the same person may...

Postcards from INDIA

This week I have been learning a great deal about community. Early this week,  I was reminded of ACTS 2:42 and 4:32- about community and the Body. Two occurances this week illustrated these verses. First, after finishing a nutrition class Wednesday, a girl invited us back into her home: a one room house with a concrete slab for a bed, dishes hanging on  the wall, a small fire pit, and a faucet. When we arrived, children scrambled and got some money together, and I was honestly a little suspicious. I had no clue what they were doing. After about 5 mintues, they came...

Fair and Lovely

So, one thing that I have noticed here is the fact that no matter HOW HARD I try to blend in, the feat is just never accomplished. Now I have been to Honduras before and have noticed the same thing but have never felt the color of my skin as much as I do here. Everywhere I go, people watch me. Some stare as if I am on the meat market, others just genuinely are curious as to why a white person is walking through their neighborhood. One day, we were walking to teach school and there was a group of women to the side fetching water. One of them said that we are beautiful. It was in that moment...

Love From Above

This week we were able to work in another preschool. These children were crazy, and I had no clue how to help keep them under control. There was this one boy who was pretty much the trouble maker in the class. He would misbehave, but when I would give him one on one attention his face would just light up. Then as the week went on I began to give this little boy more and more attention. He began to warm up to me as well. I realized that this was all he wanted. He wanted love and attention that he may not get at home. And my heart broke for him. He is so precious and I know that my love is...

the blind WILL see

So, I’m leaving 2 blogs because i have not blogged since we have been here.. Anyways, the week started off very challenging. Teaching at the preschool is pretty exhausting but so wonderful at the same time. But afterwards in the afternoons when we walk into the slums, I feel the Holy Spirit just filling me back up more and more so i can pour it out.. So, on Tuesday, I went with Laura to a families house that she was suppose to go to, to learn how to make Chipatee (an Indian tortilla type of thing). As we take off our shoes to go inside, there is an old woman curled up siting on a...

Tug of War

It seems as if He has been using children to teach me different things on this trip. Last week I had an eye-opening experience with a three year old boy. This boy was in the class I was helping to teach and is notorious for misbehaving. That day he proceeded to rip the strap of a little girl’s dress after she took a toy away from him. This boy had done various other minor acts of violence that morning including hitting and pinching. (This culture is a violent culture and it shows in its littlest ones).    Well a little while after this altercation...
