Pushed out of my comfort zone

He is showing me this week to be completely dependent on him. We have been able to teach preschoolers this week, and honestly it was a little difficult for me. The children were a little wild, but so precious at the same time. The joy that radiates off of their faces is truly inspiring. At training camp we were told to get rid of any expectations we had about the trip. I tried my hardest to do this, but I don’t think I fully did. My expectations on what we would be doing here were changed. And through this He is showing that I HAVE to fully and completely depend on Him and nothing...

I was Taught Trust from the True Teacher

Trust is something that has really been on my mind lately. We trust the food we eat to not make us sick, we trust our leaders to take care of us, we trust our friends with our stories, we trust the bus drivers to get us to where we need to go safely (even when they do get in accidents here every now and then). Trust is such an odd topic and it is something that I have always struggled with. We all have to trust in something, honestly whether we want to or not. Personally, i trust in the L$ord$. However, it makes me think back to church last Sunday. The preacher talked about when J$esus$...

Teaching Hope

Each morning I wake up to the pouring rain. After breakfast with chai, my team heads out to catch the bus. Two buses and forty minutes later, we arrive at our destination: daycare.   This week I worked at a daycare that’s tucked into the slums right at the edge of the ocean. As we walk through the streets, the children stare and yell, “Halo, teacha!” The cows and goats eat their breakfast from the piles of garbage that clutter the streets and it’s usually raining, so by the time we get to the school, our feet are soggy and coated in mud.   I volunteered...

Sally sells seashells by the seashore.

Well we have been in India for about two weeks. It has been an adventure to say the least. I won’t go into detail about everything we have been doing, but I will give you the highlights that stand out in my mind. First off, we took a sixteen hour train ride to the place we are staying now. This was an overnight train, and it is not like the trains you have in America. The thing that probably hit me the most was that beggars would walk up and down the aslies of the train asking for money. This one man was crippled, and would not leave us alone. He stayed and was...

Calluses in C^H^R^I^S^T

Calluses are defined as a toughened area of skin that has become thick and hard in response to repeated pressure. Now these calluses, quite frankly, are a rather gross thing. Boys love them, girls generally not so much. We are taught that soft skin is what is beautiful. Well, the other day we took a train. Now this train ride was quite interesting. Many stories will come later I am sure. However, one little part of this train ride that I will never forget is carrying my luggage and some extra boxes and items to and from the train station. Now, I dropped stuff all over these train...

the gods are on aisle 5

This is India. You smell something new and unpleasant every few steps. It rains every 20 minutes. There are no traffic laws whatsoever. People bobble their heads to say yes or no (very confusing). Ankles are promiscuous. I prepare to die before riding in a rickshaw/auto. Hot tea is the perfect beverage for 100 degree weather. A curb doubles as a toilet. Those who are born poor and illiterate will remain so. Women have no voice. Babies know how to beg before they mutter a first word. You can purchase the gods. People will cut off their limbs to earn more money while begging. Infants have...
