go big or go home

So today we are finally leaving for India. We are all super excited and can’t wait to be there. Anyway, it’s been a crazy ride already. Even on the first night, God began revealing lies that I have been believing for a while. When we were walking around downtown Atlanta and talking with the homeless, I realized that I have felt inadequate for this trip and have felt like God cannot use me. I was putting God in a box about how he was going to be working in and through me. Whatever happens this summer, I just want to believe that I am empowered by Christ and believe that he will...

Definitely Didn’t Picture This

Expectations; everybody has them, but sometimes we don’t even realize it until they aren’t met. Then, we get disappointed or frustrated. We were learning this in one of our training sessions and were seeking for our attitudes to be like that of Christ Jesus through the entire two months. We are God’s vessels on the trip no matter what crazy things we end up doing.    This wouldn’t have meant as much to me before training camp, but I was definitely thrown for a loop on the first day. I wasn’t expecting to drag my luggage around Atlanta, sleep in a...

my new hands and feet

The first night we arrived at training camp, my team was instructed to live homeless on the streets of Atlanta for the evening; in this assignment, sensitivity to the Holy Spirit was vital. After speaking to and praying for multiple people, we met Piccu. Piccu was sitting alone in an abandoned bus stop accompanied by an industrial trash bag filled with all he had to his name. My team grew to love this teddy bear of a man and grew more and more affectionate towards how sweet and harmless he was. We decided to use the $8 we had been given in order to feed him and we were determined to get him...

Goodbye acid relux….Hello spicy food!

Hey everyone! So we are finishing up training camp and are leaving for the airport in the next hour! We have been together as a team for 4 days now and we have become unbelievably close. We started out traveling by Marta to the Atlanta Safe House and doing ministry on the streets of Atlanta on a Friday night, then bonded by spitting water in each others faces, amazing worship services, team building activities, cold showers outside at night, testimony sharing, and so much more. These past few days have been incredible and so much needed, the Lord has been preparing us and filling us with...

Expectations.. Expectations

Our team has now completed our 4 days here in training camp and are totally India bound!!!!!!!!! Ye YEAHH!!!!!! I’m extremely stoked for our team, the women, children, and to really see God’s provision there up close and personal in INDIA!!!  Here at training camp, we went through different topics related to cross cultural encounters and how we should behave when these encounters arise. The topic that stuck in my mind would be the sermon on ‘Expectations’. It was an awesome reminder of how we all have expectations when we’re about to embark in new...

Roll That Camera…NO Cut!

Our first task as a team during training camp was to go out into downtown Atlanta and talk to people we meet.  There was really no directions, we had a certain area of downtown to stick to, but other than that we could do whatever we wanted.  We also had one dollar per person to do whatever we wanted to with.  We walked around without a clear sense of direction until this called us over to her because she recognized that we were her angels.  This is the name she called us by the entire time we were with her.  Binett was quite the interesting character.  She was...
