We arrived in
the airport in Calcutta after about 48 hours of travel and 5 hours late due to
delays. Our phones wouldnt work and we could not find our contact at the
airport. Calmly we sat trying to figure something out. Out of nowhere a teenage
girl came and asked us if there was a problem if we needed help. Her mom was
there as well. They were at the airport to pick up their children/siblings who
study in America. We soon came to find out that they are missionaries here and
they invited us into their home to stay for the night so we wouldnt be stranded
at the airport. So we piled into taxi’s with their boys in each of ours to
protect us. The husband of the asian lady that helped us was in my taxi and i
thanked him for helping us. All he said was It is our duty, it is our duty. And
then he prayed a prayer over us. It is our duty. No matter where life takes us,
it is our duty to not only say that we are followers of Christ but to actually
live like we are. To be aware of situations where we can reach out to people,
whether we know them or not. To be able to experience the body of Christ from
some random missionaries during the first hour we were in Calcutta was truly
amazing. Thank you Jesus for looking out for us and providing a safe place for
us in the midst of figuring out what we were going to do.
So finally we
are here! We made it. There are 16 boys at the orphanage we are working in.
They are all incredible and we are starting to fall in love with them! They all
have their own little quirks and personalities. It is super hot here. I think
the high since we have been here has been like 110. The last thing you want is
to touch anyone. Its the kinda hot where you stick to everything, even the
paper you write on. But when an orphan comes to sit in your lap, the heat is
not your concern. Sitting there for a while you can feel sweat accumulating but
you want and pray to keep loving like He loves. To give hope to the fatherless.
The boy finally gets up and there is an outline of sweat on me where the boy
was sitting. Shirt, pants, and even to the undergarments. God calls us to be a
body of believers who is radiant with the light of his presence. He calls us to
this kind of love, whether its physically or mentally uncomfortable. As adopted
sons and daughters of Christ he showers his love on us even if we are far away
from him.
We have a lot to
learn from these boys. They are in such good hands of the Pastor. We get to
worship with them and have devotionals with them. These boys have incredible
faith. They can sit through 3 hour church services on the floor, their prayers
are longer than mine(no really), and they are such great servants. They serve
us in little ways by putting up our little coffee cups or fixing the carpet
underneath us, or putting our shoes inside so they wont get rained on. They are
so obedient to Pastor Sam and his wife. I am continuing to pray to love these
boys. I dont know what the purpose of me being here is but if its just to give
one boy a hug then it is worth it. Continue to pray for energy for our team as
we are adjusting to the heat. And sleep. Thank you to everyone who is following
our journey!
