The “head bob” has been something that my team and I have had encountered a lot since coming to India. It’s simply the action of bobbing your head from side to side and it means “maybe”, “sure”, “if you want”, “you could”, or “why not”. It’s been a cultural adjustment for us. They use it all the time and in every conversation and its really easy to catch onto!
There are times when I’ll go in the afternoons to get one of my girls, Katharine, for our session and she’ll be sleeping. So, I’ll ask her Ayah if I can take her and she’ll give me the head bob. Is that a yes? Can I take her? Well, she’s not outright telling me “No, don’t take her”. So, after watching the Ayah bob her head for a solid 30 seconds I just pick her up and go to our session.
Personally I feel like God gives me the head bob sometimes. I ask Him question after question and don’t always receive answers. Or sometimes I feel like I get a piece of an answer but nothing more. So I’m left to wonder, do I pray for this random stranger that I feel led to pray for? Or not? Do I go to college in the fall or on another trip? Then, I imagine God giving me the head bob.
“A man’s steps are from the Lord; how then can a man understand his way?” Proverbs 20:24
I don’t imagine God’s head bob being a dismissive one though, I feel like His is more deliberate. He doesn’t want me to know what’s coming next. He has something in mind for me but it’s not time for me to know what it is yet. I’m called to trust and obey, and to wait. To be still in His presence and to soak up every moment that He’s given me here in India.
My Padre is a Padre who cares about my every day and He cares about yours too. I challenge you to seek Him out in all the little moments in the day and to fight the thought “God, wouldn’t care about this, I’ll deal with it on my own.”
THAT IS INCORRECT AND A LIE
Seek Him out in all your moments and just see how much He cares for you.
