The Head Bob

The “head bob” has been something that my team and I have had encountered a lot since coming to India. It’s simply the action of bobbing your head from side to side and it means “maybe”, “sure”, “if you want”, “you could”, or “why not”. It’s been a cultural adjustment for us. They use it all the time and in every conversation and its really easy to catch onto! There are times when I’ll go in the afternoons to get one of my girls, Katharine, for our session and she’ll be sleeping. So, I’ll ask...

God is our PROVIDER

I don’t like Indian food. Like at all. And Indian food doesn’t like me. I discovered this when God called me to India last year for a month long project. While I fell in love with the people, I did not fall in love with their food. I am not a picky eater but I struggled to find anything that I could keep down. So needless to say, I didn’t eat much. Holding up in the heat of India is much harder when you are not getting proper nutrition. I grew tired and weak from exhaustion, and became very cranky, which made ministry more difficult. As if culture shock wasn’t hard enough. As...

I love India! (:

From the drizzle of rain to the ecstatic, deep laughter of a small Indian girl to the spicy curry– I LOVE India. I am so blessed to have been here as God has allowed to me to do so many good deeds for his glory AND to have learned so many things. When people said I would never be the same after India I didn't think it could be that life changing but God has actually shown me a lot as I have sought Him desperately on this trip and had opportunity to do good deeds everyday. I know how to love people better now.    So here's the work we got to do: 1. We got all...

Daily Surprises

Everyday here in India is full of surprises. Whether that be a completely different schedule to the day than what was planned, to random people constantly flowing through  the home we are staying at with some occasionally drinking all of our water. Or, it might be a special surprise specifically planned by God for us that day.  Throughout my time here I find that I'm constantly being provided and cared for. The Lord constantly sees my needs and tends to them in beautiful ways. When I'm feeling low, he knows exactly how to put a smile on my face and how to fill me with joy....

Stars over India

India is a dark place. Spiritually there is little to no Christians here, Christians make a whopping 4% of all of the population. Down the road from us is a giant temple for one if the many Hindu gods that they worship. It is a tough environment for a Christian to thrive and do ministry. However, India is not only dark in the spiritual sense it is also literally dark.   When it gets dark out I automatically turn my head above me. I have always been baffled by the great expanse that is space. Not only because of the unknown but also because of its beauty and the way that God is written...

Orphans

8/10/13 blog post As a group, myself and my 9 teammates have two meetings a day that we call “family time” and it is so great. The girls on the team all crack me up and bring so many great things to the table, and I can see myself growing in Christ beside them, and it is beautiful. This morning we decided to switch it up and have our team time on the roof, overlooking the bustling road while enjoying the cool breeze. We have started a team Bible study, and are breaking down Ephesians, starting with Ephesians 1:1-11. This passage was definitely a lot to take in. Ephesians is...
