This post is for all of you that are curious what a day usually looks like for us here in India. For those of you that aren’t curious, this isn’t for you – just move on… 😉
We begin every morning as a team and have some time with the Lord and each other. We take turns leading that time which makes every morning a little different and unique which I love!
If you are good like some of the girls on my team, you get up early and have personal devotion time and breakfast before team devotions. If you are like me on most mornings, your teammates come up about 5 minutes before it’s supposed to start and ask you if you're ever going to get up. You jump up, throw on the clothes that smell the least awful, grab your Bible and journal, and go.
After team devotions we have a little bit of down time before ministry starts which is when I usually get my personal devotion/breakfast in…
Ministry looks a little different each day and can include, but is not limited to any combination of working on the clothing project (sorting donated clothes, shopping for new ones, sewing labels on all of them, putting them into outfits and figuring out what needs to go to which home, etc.), working with the kids in the homes, helping clean out the homes that they are currently moving out of (we’ll be helping to get the new homes ready this week), and starting yesterday, village ministry (more on that to come later…).
During our lunch break and after ministry we are usually free to do whatever we like and that time has been spent trying food at all sorts of places (I’m in love with the banana smoothies from the little stands on the street!), shopping way too much (Indian clothes are by far the best option and we can’t wear the same thing every day, so what else could we do?!), and just hanging out together.
We try to have a time of worship and sharing testimonies with both teams at least twice a week and those nights are always really great! We’re also trying to get a game night together – that is yet to happen, but we’re still working on it!
Other than that our days are basically normal.
We ride everywhere in these:
Walk out of our gate every day to things like this:
See strange things like this as we walk down the street:
Get dressed up like this:
And get to hang out with amazing kids like this:
That’s normal, right?
No? Well, here in India it is and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
