Pinky Promise Me

We’re done. Three months has flown by and I’ve said goodbye to everyone who now owns a piece of my heart. Whenever you do something like this you always ask, “Am I really making a difference? Have I wasted my time here?” I was asking that. Then I got my answer. “I’m sad.” I looked down at Manjunah. He had muttered it the first time, so I asked, “What?” He repeated it again a little louder but never looked up at me. “Because we’re leaving?” I asked. He leaned his head on me as he nodded. “But I’m coming to...

This is Not the End

October 23rd, 2011 marked midway of our time here in India. It was a Sunday, and we had just ended our time of midway debrief with our team and our field support from AIM, where we spent the weekend away from ministry and really normal life in India as we stayed at a beautiful resort tucked away in a beach haven. We spent a lot of that weekend joking, laughing, and reflecting on the first half of our trip. After that time ended, we had felt refreshed to continue on our ministry for the other half of our trip and really finish strong. We set goals and different things we would work on or...

The Cries of Goodbyes

They’re crying started while we were sharing about what a blessing it has been to get to know them and serve them.  Each of us “teachas” took turns telling them how much we loved them and are going to miss them.   I was determined not to cry until I got on the bus to head home, but as I saw a couple children crying across the room tears began to fill my eyes.    The children didn’t just shed a few tears like I had expected, they began to weep.  Girls began crying on me.  Laying their heads in my lap and on my shoulder.  They...

SO THIS IS GOODBYE

December 1st was our last day of ministry in the slum that I worked in primarily. As we got on our bus that morning, I just started praying that the Lord would make the day an adventure and that it would be a day I would always remember. Well, he answered quickly. As we got on our second bus, our group was split up, my fried rice was knocked out of my hand onto the bus floor (along with my iPod and camera…) and it was a really rough bus ride. Ha, got it God. I want adventure, you gave it to me. In preschool circle time, our contact had all of the kids put their hands on one of our...

Images I can’t get out of my head

Being on a bus leaves you with a lot of time to…well, think.  And since we have been in India, we have rode on a bus just about everyday Monday-Friday for 2 times a day, and on the weekends to get to church. The bus ride is usually one of excitement, of amusement, or of irritation, but yes, even when we are squished between an Indian (or 4) and a teammate, we have time to think. But earlier this week, we took various buses from Goa to Bangalore, a flight from Bangalore to Dehli, where we then took a bus from Dehli to Agra (to see the Taj Mahal) and back. In 4 days...

Coffee And Pizza Make A Great Breakfast

I think my blog title is probably as random as my week!   So travels went good, it was great to be able to see more parts of India AND the Rahab’s Rope house in Bangalore AND of course the TAJ MAHAL!! We also got to tour the Mysore palace and that was so much fun; we started a dance party, chased down elephants, rode the elephants, took tons of photos, then at the Gardens at night with fountains lit up we took a boat ride, we ate great street food, and sang Disney songs. Great day. And then going to Delhi and Agra was AMAZING! I love Agra, we got to go the the Fort, the Taj...
