From the moment this woman has entered the earth she has had to fight for her very life.  Neglected  and rejected she has grown to fend for herself.  Working the day away, she suffers with the pain of never being of any worth.  She’s looked down upon and abused by all who should have loved her.  Never having a father, she knows no man of honor.  By fourteen she’s handed off to her cousin who now is her husband.  Abuse and neglect do not disappear, but increase.  She’s living in fear.  At the age of...

Here I Come Falling

Falling…Well jumping? I jumped. Off a super high cliff in Rio de Janeiro…Brazil that it is. I didn’t have a hang glider, but I still jumped, because I knew it would be ok. I could see the Jesus statue. I had jumped way above it. On my descent down to earth I was trying to figure out how I could survive, what I could grab onto. “Teacha! Teacha!”

Little brown heads poke around from the corners.   With a smirk on their face they give a little wave and yell, “Teacha! Teacha!”  Everywhere we go that chant is ringing.  Children we know and children we’ve never seen sing this phrase over and over again until there is some kind of response from us back at them.  Sometimes they will even trickle in from their hiding and form a crowd around and behind us.  With joy and laughter rolling from their mouth, all they want to do is touch us, have us take a photo or laugh at us.  Some even want...

That He never leaves me, that He’s always there. She had no idea that her actions towards me spoke so much to my soul…   As this women and I were walking around in the slum community everyday she would hold my hand. Since this was a little...

Don’t Leave Me Hangin’

Can these weeks fly by any faster?… This week has been such an encouragement as we’ve seen prayer after prayer being answered. When God calls us to something – a project, a task, a ministry, a job – He’ll never leave us hanging. That wouldn’t make any sense, would it? Earlier this week the ministry here had to move out of our building due to some conflicts. So we started praying. In the mean time we got a glimpse of just how much of an impact we’re making here. The women that we help everyday were so worried that it meant that they wouldn’t be...
