Have Thine Own Way Lord

So it has been one month here in India now! It has been mind blowing and life shaking for sure…And I love it. It is funny I was reading my journal from one month ago exactly and on 9-7-11, and I was writing about the cold night that we spent in the New Jersey airport with our 24 hour layover, and I had also written a poem that read, “We will hear Your voice O God. In the whisper on the wind, As the red leaves fall. Grace and beauty, God, clothes us with. And dancing is Your delight. The rain, it has a beautiful song. I love You Lord, all days long. To see, O God, Your beautiful face....

Little Slice of Heaven

Shrills of laughter slice the air as thirty children make their way onto a bus.  They are about to experience something they may never get to do again.  For a moment, today they will be taken away from all their worries and all they know.   The bus engines starts, but is quickly drowned out by the sound of praise songs as the children sing at the top of their lungs.  All the way to the beach they worship the Lord making their voices known to all we pass by.  Finally we’re there, it was only a ten minute drive, but for them, it could have felt like...

Splashes of Joy

This week has been so challenging for our team and this ministry in a number of ways. The darkness is trying to rise against us and it can definatly be discouraging. However, God has shown me a perfect picture of finding joy in the darkness this week.    On Monday we took the kids from the tutoring class in one of the slums to a beautiful beach away from the darkness and grime. They dressed in their best clothes and you could see the light and excitement bursting from thier smiling faces. We had a picnic with lots of cookies and soda and chips…things they...

The Best Day

On Monday, we took our kids from the tutoring program to the beach (about 30 kids). And it was the best day. Walking into the slum that day, there was a light, playful feeling in the air. All of the kids started yelling, “teacha, teacha, teacha!!!” as soon as they saw us. Which they do everyday, but they were so much more animated and urgent about it. Not only were they the most excited i’ve ever seen them, they were also all dressed in their Sunday best, freshly bathed and most of the boys had fresh haircuts. All of the kids ran down to the house that we have tutoring in...

This is Real

Though I seem to have these marking of times in every blogpost, I find this one to be fitting because we have officially been in India for a month now. This time last month we had just made it to Goa after three days of travel from Atlanta. All the possibilities of what would occur in India lay ahead of us. We had no idea exactly what we would be doing, who we would be working with, or even where we would be living. There was so much excitement and anxiousness within us, as we wanted to get to Goa; we wanted to start ministry and just start living India! And now we have gotten over the...
