Unwanted.

A few days ago my team and I were doing some house visits. These are always a huge blessing. Seriously I have never experienced hospitality like that of the slums in India. They will give and give even if it means sacrificing their dinner. Usually we all cram into a tiny room, the size of most Americans bathrooms or walk-in closets, and sit on the floor. On this visit there was about 8-10 of us crammed in an even smaller room.   As we sat there sipping our warm chai, I noticed too eyes sheepishly staring back into mine from behind a curtain in a back room. This week I was at a new (as in different than last week) ministry site. WE still taught preschool in the morning, but in the afternoon we did tutoring (which they refer to as “tuitions,” which doesn’t even make sense) with the kids in the village. Imagine

Think back to when you were 14 years old.  What did you think about?  What were your concerns?  Did you go to school? Did you have to cook all of the meals for the family?  Was marriage a thought at 14 years old?  Were you expected to have children the next year at age 15?  And when you did have children, was it despised if you never gave birth to boys? Or imagine being married to a man you do not love and being told that you are not allowed to marry your boyfriend because he is from a different caste.  Imagine this.  Imagine growing up in a culture...

Breaking Down Walls of Expectations

Coming to India has already challenged me in so many ways. Even during training camp we were being thrown into random situations. The first night we were told to sleep outside and make a tent out of 2 tarps. But my team got it down, of course 😉 Its been cool to know that my team and I are in this trip together especially because none of us knew that this was the training we were getting ourselves into. It is pretty awesome knowing we have the same desires to serve women and we are more than willing to overcome obstacles together. During camp, we met a woman named Laura who worked in...

Glimmers of Light

India is a land of rich culture, spicy food, and wonderful colors. This is a land filled with such wonder and beauty, yet it is filled with grave poverty. Yes, poverty in the sense of wealth but more importantly spiritual poverty. Although religion plays a key role in this culture with the abundance of idols and mosque these people lack any concept of the ability to have a personal relationship with God. This idea is a foreign concept not just to individuals but to the culture as a whole. Yet, in this world of spiritual darkness there are glimmers of light....
