This week has been a really challenging one for my team. We've battled some serious sickness, lots of dehydration, intense spiritual warfare, sleepless nights, and a broken air conditioning. We've spent a lot of time in prayer and worship trying to regain the strength this week took out of us. But today, being our Sabbath, we were rewarded.
There's a French bakery in town called Caramel. The owner is a great guy who spent 4 years living in my hometown of Sugar Land, TX! We eat there on occasion and have made pretty good friends with him. He spoils us with cheese pizza, chicken sandwiches, and coffee. He told us last week that if we'd like, he would make cinnamon rolls just for us. My teammate, Macey, and I decided that we should call ahead and order some for our team – many of whom have been throwing up for days. We ordered 10 cinnamon rolls for 400 rupees. (That's 80¢ each!) Last night felt like Christmas Eve! I couldn't sleep due to my mouth watering at the thought of cinnamon rolls. Cinnamon rolls in India. Who would've thought?
We slept in this morning until 9:30, got up, got dressed, and headed to Caramel. We were the first eager customers there. We got our water bottles and awaited our breakfast. One of the servers brought out a tray full and I pictured my eyes turning into red hearts just like a cartoon. Once we all had ours, we said grace and thanked Jesus for creating cinnamon rolls and cold water.
Y'all, let me tell you – there is nothing sweeter than a Sunday morning cinnamon roll in India with a team of amazing women. We savored every bite and ooh'ed and ahh'ed at all the right times. (As we all know, the middle is the best part!) This morning was such a blessing to my team. After such a rough, but awesome, week – this was just what we needed. Before coming to India, I didn't think of all the little things that Jesus blesses us with. Since being here, all of the little blessings are so much more recognized. Running water, propane for the stove, electricity, air conditioning, and even cinnamon rolls are extremely hard to come by. I'm embracing every little thing that The Lord is providing here – even if that is just a delicious pastry! It sounds silly to say that my breakfast has helped me see God's love for us, but it truly has. We got a little taste of home this morning and that was exactly what we needed! Isn't Jesus good like that?
Please continue to pray for my team as we're starting another week here in India! 🙂
Love to all,
Alexis Burrmann
