So my team is pretty great. It’s me and 7 other girls plus our 2 leaders. Audrey, Emma, Kelsey, Alexis, Roxy, Mary Grace, Macey, Sam, and Jessica. They’re definitely an interesting bunch. I hope to keep growing closer to them. I’m sure we will. After all, we’re living in pretty sweaty, crazy, tight conditions together for 2 months. We live with the other India team too.
The normal day consists of a quiet time in the morning by myself with breakfast, going to SCH office to do paperwork for adoptions- we’re almost done with that project though! Yay! Then we go to the babies room where we play with the babies. There’s one baby girl named Eeshwari who can’t move very well so I did a little physical therapy type stuff for her- just moved her legs- it’s really sad when her muscles spasm though, which happens alot. Some of the babies are so funny too! There’s one little (and i mean LITTLE) four year old named Prima but she has one of the BIGGEST personalities! She runs everywhere and babbles constantly while climbing on everything and everyone. She definitely thinks she runs the place and it’s so cute and funny!
On the way to and from the office there’s a group of village kids who attack us- all wanting to smile at us and shake our hands. They’re so unabashed- it’s great!
The other day was my favorite day being here thus far. We got to go with some of the cutest special needs kids from the orphanage to an amusement/water park in India! It was called Haii Land. Some of the quietest kids just lit up & went NUTS when they got in the water. My friend Mary Grace & I went into the wave pool with one of the blind girls named Mariamma. Mariamma hardly ever seemed to say a word but when we got her into the waves she was laughing and yelling with us like we had just entered Heaven. It was probably one of the best moments of my life too- I felt a sincere joy that is just too unexplainable! So much fun! The bathing suits were interesting too. Since India is very, very modest (it would be appalling to see a woman showing her shoulders or ankles) the bathing we rented were long water pants & water t-shirts– we looked quite funny in those getups.
In all seriousness though- these kids are SO stinkin’ PRECIOUS & ADORABLE! It shocks me why any parent would give kids up who are as sweet as these kids. I’m just sayin’ I could definitely see adoption being in my future because I’m realizing there are so many sweet kids out there that don’t have a mother. It’s definitly something I’ll be praying about and I’ll see where the spirit leads me. In all honesty I’d advise everyone to pray about it and see where the spirit leads you concerning adoption– because from what I can tell it is one of the most BEAUTIFUL things out there. After all- God adopted us.
That’s another thing I feel like I’m learning alot- relying on the spirit. For direction. For strength. For everything. Not gonna lie- it’s HARD here. I find myself constantly NEEDING to rely on the spirit because there are just days when I have to tell God “I don’t have any energy- I need you” on those days when sweat pours down me constantly and homesickness overtakes me. I’ve decided to read 1 Corinthians for my quiet times too and it has alot to say about living by the spirit. I feel like I’m learning alot about listening to God here. After all, “we have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.” – 1 Corinthians 2:12
