Lovely Feet

The week before last, one of my teammates shared the story
of Jesus washing the disciples’ feet during tutoring with the kids. After that
story, another teammate and I felt led by the Spirit to put words into action
and wash the kids’ feet. This past Tuesday, we filled two buckets full of
water, and with soap in hand, we washed, dried, and bandaged feet. Among the
giggling and laughter of the children was a humbling heaviness. With every foot
I touched, I prayed for that foot to go places for God; to carry His Name to those
who do not know Him; to be overwhelmed with God’s love so much that the child
would believe in Jesus Christ as the One True God.

Along with those prayers, the Lord spoke to me in a powerful
way. When washing some feet, there were cuts that were so deep that the child
began to cry. Yet, the soap was so necessary. It reminded me of how dirty I am
with the selfishness that I have walked through in my life. It is so easy to
avoid the cuts and just let them scar. Yet, God washed us with His blood, so
much that it cleans us, heals us, and frees us from ourselves and the bondage
we choose to cling to.

I love these people, and I long for them to trust in Jesus.
I cannot imagine how much love He has for us. It is so beautiful and
overwhelming.

Now before the Feast of the Passover, Jesus knowing that His
hour had come that He would depart out of this world to the Father, having
loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end… “If I then, the
Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you.” —John 13:1, 14-15
