This Is Really Life?!

SO much has happened in the nine days that we have been here in Kolkata that I hardly know where to begin! I have been learning the basic rules of living here such as the driving rules here are the following: stop and go. And the best way to deal with pedestrians who are in the way is just to run over them. The rule for waste disposal here according to Pastor Sam is “you find a lake and throw it in.” It is very different than what we are used to and every day is such an adventure. The internet has been not what we expected. It’s hard to come by. Last night was the first...

You know you’re in Calcutta when…

·         The minute you get off the plane all you smell is smog. ·         It’s January and it’s really warm out. ·         You’re jet lagged beyond reason. ·         We are the only white people, so we get stared at. Hardcore. People stop and take pictures. ·         You miss Wilmington traffic. ·         It’s rush hour...

Dancing With My Jesus

Before I am came on this trip one thing that I was praying for was to be able to hear God’s voice more clearly. Well, I have learned how to do that. One time when He spoke to me sticks out really clearly. It’s rainy season here in India and everyday it rains…with the exception of maybe one or two days. I have make up on, I’m wearing a long skirt that will get soaked, and I’m wearing a white shirt.” (That is not a good response. FYI) It...

Thanks Mom and Dad!

I was talking to my mom on the phone a few weeks ago when she informed me that she wanted to give me some money to bless the boys at our home at my discretion. I immediately knew how we were going to bless them: new clothes. Our boys wear the same worn, ripped, dirty, tattered clothing with holes and missing buttons day in and day out. When they’re not in their school uniform, they have two outfits: one that they wear day after day after day, and one that they sleep in. $100 in hand, I began my shopping spree (it’s amazing how far $100 will stretch in...

Last Times

Well, it’s started. Before I came to India I was doing my last times before coming here for two months. Now, I am doing all the last times before I come home. The last Thursday, the last Friday, the last Saturday chillaxing in Barasot and the lasts that are to come: Last favorite meal of spicy chicken and rice, last 5:30 tea time, last snuggle/nap time with one of my little boys, last time teasing the pastor’s wife and watching her eyes water up because she is laughing so hard, last time of sleeping under my insanely awesome mosquito net, (who knows, I just may use it at home...
