Interruptions

When I think about what I’ll miss most about my time in India, it’s hard to pinpoint one thing. Will I miss the boys? Of course. The food? Perhaps. Rickshaw rides? Without a doubt. Mosquito nets? Eh. Bartering? YES. But if I truly think about what I will miss the most, I would have to say it’s the interruptions.   Not so much the kind that cut you off in conversation, but rather the kind of interruptions that happen all for the glory of God. It’s been awesome to see how God has worked unplanned ministry in the midst of our planned ministry. I specifically think of Peter and...

Lessons

God is awesome for many reasons. I love how he teaches me things and brings me through seasons where he allows me to be his student. The following paragraphs address a few of the lessons I feel like the Lord has been teaching me throughout my time in India. Enjoy! 1. Expectations                 When embarking on this two month journey, I would have denied the fact that I had expectations for what our time in India would look like. I would have told you that whatever happened was cool with me. I may have used...

You might be in Calcutta if…

You might be in Calcutta if …. You constantly smell like sour baby milk from sweating profusely You wake up raging with itch in the middle of the night from bugs (ants, roaches, mosquitoes, things we don’t know the name of…) You rejoice at the sight of a rain cloud Much of your prayer and supplication has to do with asking God to turn the power back on People almost run into a pole from staring at you You douse yourself in baby powder daily It’s natural to grab a friend and start picking through their hair for lice You wear clothes that cover your legs in 100+ degree weather You are...

God? Yes, God

Okay, I really really need to talk about God and Christianity for just a minute. It’s long but stay with me. Three themes: God wants us, We need God, Life as a Christian  I would like to preface this whole thing with a verse: Philippians 3: 12 – 13 “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Friends, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it.â€   God wants us I was sitting here in India one morning on our day off in the coffee shop. I had this...

Best Day of My Life!

Is this blog about the “best day of my life”? Hm, not really. Honestly, I couldn’t really think of a catchy title so I figured that would draw in a few readers.             In all seriousness though, what constitutes as a good day? Marriage? Babies? I have experienced neither, so I can’t really say. But, today God has got me thinking about what things in life make us happy. Why do we get excited and look forward to certain things? Where does our security lie and what is the root of our happiness? Is it even...

Thank You Jesus!

Thank You Jesus   ‘Dear God, I am thankful for: My dog, this food, my mom, my dad, and some of my siblings.’ That last one was supposed to be funny, anyway. Typical prayer right? Now, what if you woke up the next morning and that was all you had? The same meal, your dog, your mom, dad and that sibling you liked. You would probably start thanking God a little more right? Living in India has shown me how I fail to be thankful for the things God has given me. I take things for granted SO easily. It is so readily available and I feel like, “Hey, I need such and such I can just run...
