Clean Grass

My Day: 8am – wake up, spend time with my man Jesus 9:50 – walk to the boys home 10:00 – breakfast free time 12:30 – lunch 1:30 – boys arrive home from school After greeting them at the door with smiles, hugs, and tickles they eat lunch and then it’s time to study. Tutoring is actually the biggest portion of our ministry. Many of our boys are behind in class. They are being asked to know and understand English phrases when they can barely read and don’t understand that letters make certain sounds. They have exams next week. After tutoring we play out on the...

SERIOUSLY, God?

Over these past two weeks, there have been a lot of times I’ve found myself asking, “SERIOUSLY, God?” To be completely honest, things have just seemed too good to be true. I sit with my team of women in the sweltering heat, the smell of sour baby milk permeating the room (because at this point, that’s what most of us smell like 24-7), our bellies full of meals of fried dough, white rice and potatoes, drinking warm water, heat rash and mosquito bites covering our bodies, and I see them all continuing to PRAISE GOD. Despite the heat and the lack of comfort, the women...

I can make my Body to praise the Lord

India is hot. Actually, hot does not even begin to describe the heat here. I sweat all day everyday. I wake up sweaty and sticky; I go to bed sweaty and sticky. When I get out of the shower and towel off I sweat. It is ridiculous and it makes me laugh. Being in India has shown me how to appreciate the little things. Here is a top ten: 1. Cold Water — every drink here is hot 2. Gatorade — because it is something different than water 3. Air conditioning (which we only enjoy on Saturdays, our days off) 4. Fruit — a rare but much enjoyed treat 5. Oatmeal — so...

an army of truth

How do even begin to describe… the chaos of the city? The precious faces and giggles of the 16 boys at the home? What God is teaching me? Through some of the most intense conditions I have ever experienced, God is teaching me so much about what it truly means for “His power to be made perfect in my weakness. And weak I have often felt! I may have sweat more in the past 10 days than in the last 20 years of life combined! Never have I been more grateful for ceiling fans, cold showers or refrigerated water! But God is teaching me daily that He wants my obedience more than He wants my...

Starbucks!?

You know, for as long as I can remember I’ve loved a good cup of coffee in an air conditioned building with Bible in hand. What sweet times with Jesus those always are. Now as I’m sure most of you know, Starbucks and AC don’t aren’t a readily available commodity over here in India. I think the Lord has taught me something huge in this. He’s teaching me that worshiping in the sweltering heat can be even MORE sweet than in an air conditioned building.    I’ve always thought that I knew this. I’ve always thought, “Well hey, I...

Being an Auntie

We have spent the majority of the past nine days at the children’s home here in Kolkata. As soon as we step on the property, we are known as Aunties. Hearing a little boy’s voice calling out Auntie or Taylor Auntie rarely fails to put a smile on my face. These boys have welcomed us into their home with love. With crazy squeals, and with smirking faces just inviting a good tickle from us (or maybe I just like tickling the boys because I know it can get every single one of them to laugh…!) I’ve spent a lot of time playing with kids over the past few years, so it is...
