The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

One month down in Calcutta. It is crazy to think we have 26 days before we will leave this place that has become such a part of my daily life. At this point I can not imagine what it will be like to not be on the noisy, crazy crowded, dangerous Calcutta streets. So, for this blog post, I will be recapping this month with the good, the bad, and the ugly. The Good: Every Wednesday night is our week-iversary. We spend time together doing fun silly things like playing BS with cards, having dance parties, or watching Tangled Picked up some new vocabulary words: sick, foul, and strugs Learned...

Than Nimitham Injangal Jeevikunnu (You Are The Reason We Live) We’ve all been asked the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up? And I’m sure you’ve said or heard, “Spiderman, “A Super Hero, “ A Surgeon, “A Ballerina, “A Firefighter, or “A Lawyer etc etc. Then, we hit the point of being “grown up and we may or may not have figured out what we wanted or want to be. A Day in the Life

Though every day is a little different, we wanted to share with you what a “typical” day in the life is like for us here in Kolkata, India. Enjoy! 8am: Wake up. Sometimes it is easy, but sometimes it is not. Sometimes what He tells me to do makes me uncomfortable or is the more challenging option. But I am seeing how even these things that He calls me to, that in the moment seem purposeless or not worth...

Waking Up

If you have never been immersed in a culture where you are in the religious minority, ideally a significant minority, I would challenge you to do so. I can only compare being surrounded by Hindu worship, festivals, idols, temples, etc. to Dorothy being dropped in Oz. My first few days I had to remind myself I was not dreaming. Now that I have woken up, I have found that the spiritual warfare is starkly different than what I am accustomed to. The more I learn of Hinduism the more I wonder how these beautiful, hospitable people could have strayed so far from God. How could they be so...

It is our duty

We arrived in the airport in Calcutta after about 48 hours of travel and 5 hours late due to delays. Our phones wouldnt work and we could not find our contact at the airport. Calmly we sat trying to figure something out. Out of nowhere a teenage girl came and asked us if there was a problem if we needed help. Her mom was there as well. They were at the airport to pick up their children/siblings who study in America. We soon came to find out that they are missionaries here and they invited us into their home to stay for the night so we wouldnt be stranded at the airport. So we piled into...
