Joy in the Trials

Last week was a really tough week. Honestly, it’s just been a really tough month. March started off good, Mid-debrief went beautifully. It was great to head into the city and regroup, refocus, and remember what American food tasted like. We grew closer as a team there, and talked about how we wanted to continue to grow and what we wanted to accomplish for the last two months. So I was more than excited when debrief ended and we could get back to Barasat and put those plans into action. As soon as we stepped foot in Barasat though, things started to go downhill. And I should have...

this is my life…

I love blogging. I may be the only one on this team who loves to blog, but I do. I also love writing. It is a really strange love/hate relationship. I love getting in the zone, typing out all my thoughts, and listening to good music. I hate trying to figure out what exactly to write; what to share with you. Should I write about the emotions of this trip? Should I share specific experiences? Usually I try to do a little of both. Anyways, because I am the only one who actually loves to blog on this team, the rest of the team always jokes around about blogging stupid stuff. Usually I sit...

The Desires of My Heart

First and fore mostly, I need you to pray for me. Every day I fight my desires to do “good” to bring attention to what Christ is doing in me.  “May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me and I to the world.”  -Galatians 6:14 I don’t want to do anything to bring fame to my name. I want it all to be about Jesus. When I walk my day to day life out, I want you to literally see the grace and love of Christ. Even writing this, I battle thoughts like, “I hope they can see how my...

A prayer for my sisters

To my co-leader Hannah, and a team of nine incredible ladies:   Dear God, please make us dangerous women. May we be women who acknowledge our power to change, and grow, and be radically alive for You. May we be healers of wounds and righters of wrongs. May we weep with those who weep, and speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. May we cherish children, embrace the elderly, and empower the poor. May we pray deeply and teach wisely. May we be strong and gentle leaders. May we sing songs of joy and talk down fear. May we never hesitate to let passion push us, conviction compel...

What a Month in India will get you..

I still can’t process that I have been here for a month! But on February 21st, it was official; the only white people in Barasat, Kolkata had been in India for 31 days. And here is a little summary of what that month has been comprised of: What I have learned: Crossing heavily trafficked streets is hard, but has been successfully mastered. Any mode of transportation you take through these streets is an adrenaline rush. Which vehicle honk is for the traffic and which one is for us. We are kind of like celebrities here. Kind of. All guys will holler, stare, and smile creepily. Women...

Woman at the Well

How do I express the last 11 days clearly? I don’t know if I can. It has been a beautiful time of reflection, growth, challenges, and pruning my heart. Also, the time has flown by. It feels like yesterday that we got here, but it has already been a month. Actually, today is officially our one month mark. And here we are, just 2 weeks away from MID-DEBRIEF! What? How did this happen? After that, we have just a short 8 weeks left. The first week we were here, I would have told you that 8 weeks was an eternity, but now… I can’t believe it. I don’t want to believe...
