Blessed Birthday in India

Have you ever had a birthday in Kolkata, India?  Yeah me either, but I can now cross it off the bucket list. Like a new year a new age makes me look back and review all the things that happened to me while I was the young age of 18. God has blessed me with so much, from the new people He put in my life to the strength He put into the relationships I already had with my friends and family. I’m closer to them now then I have ever been before. He also blessed me with the crazy journey that He put me on to place me here. If you had told me last winter that the following year I...

The power of learning and discerning Gods message.

God has been working in my heart in so many ways. This is both amazing and convicting. Conviction is this wonderful thing that comes into play when we as Christians have lacked in our Christian lives.   I have experienced incredible things on this trip and I believe these things have happened because I have given God the Glory and credit for all he does. He has taken my old self and is renewing my mind and soul in him.   I have been reading this book my father gave me before my trip here, labeled Crazy Love. The author of this book brings a cleansing perspective that...

Healing Hands

When we had spaghetti for breakfast this morning, I knew it was going to be a special day. Warning: This is going to be mind-blowing! We set out for a prayer walk this morning with August, who is our translator, navigator and bodyguard. We stopped to pray for a man who was sitting on the steps of a Hindu temple. This man has had is left arm paralyzed for 3 years, and as we started to pray, a crowd was gathering (not uncommon for us). Some continued to pray for him for a while, and some of us went to pray for other people who had pushed through the crowd, asking for prayer in the name of...

Light in a Dark Place Called India

I absolutely love waking up every morning and realizing that I am in India. Even though this is such a dark place filled with so much pain and suffering, there is some light shining through the cracks.   I had this vision the other day, after we went prayer walking trough some poorer parts of Kolkata, of this dark room. And all of a sudden there was a light bulb in the room shining super bright; the darkness disappeared because the light was so bright. Then I got a vision of a room with a couple light bulbs in it, then some darkness tried to enter the light room and make it become...

beauty

Beauty   I just cannot get over how beautiful this country is. Most people who have ever been to India would hear that statement and laugh hysterically. Rightfully so-it’s filthy, it always smells weird, and the smog is almost suffocating.   But the Lord has melted my heart for these people and this nation. Everywhere I look, I am reminded of how dear these people are to my Father.   They are broken people living in a broken nation. Even the kids we delight in everyday come from backgrounds that would blow your mind.   “But God is so rich in...

Life As We Know It

Hey there! It is so hard to sum up my life here, but there are so many little things that continue to brighten my days and lift my spirits. I wake at 8:30 in the morning, on the concrete floor with only a small mattress as my bed. I wake up, frankly, very uncomfortable. But when I open my eyes, I see that I am being surrounded by a team of 11 loving sisters, and holding each other up is the most beautiful thing. Our team starts off our day in study of the Word and in worship and prayer. We walk to Asha home at 10 am, and are always greeted by precious children, grinning and they never fail...
