Thanks Mom and Dad!

I was talking to my mom on the phone a few weeks ago when she informed me that she wanted to give me some money to bless the boys at our home at my discretion. I immediately knew how we were going to bless them: new clothes. Our boys wear the same worn, ripped, dirty, tattered clothing with holes and missing buttons day in and day out. When they’re not in their school uniform, they have two outfits: one that they wear day after day after day, and one that they sleep in. $100 in hand, I began my shopping spree (it’s amazing how far $100 will stretch in...

Shorty Fire Burning in Calcutta

(note: this says it’s posted by Heidi, but it’s Raelyn’s blog! Enjoy!) Sometimes when you go on mission trips to foreign countries you get sick. You may get a cough, the sniffles, a sore throat, or other things commonly acquired by most people in the States. As for me, who happens to normally have unfortunate luck when it comes to sickness, I end up quite sick. Yes, I was fire burning in Calcutta with a raging fever amid other symptoms. Yes, I did get admitted in a hospital in Calcutta, India. Yes, that is right, Indian Hospital. But, before you panic please let me tell...

The Power of Love

First off, my apologies for the lack of communication via blog these past few weeks. It’s hard to believe in one week we’ll be landing on American soil. And on July 30th I’ll finish debrief-the same date I finished the World Race one year earlier. It’s been an incredible two months here. I didn’t know I could enjoy leading a team so much. I didn’t know I could enjoy ministry so much. I didn’t know I could love so much.  Meet Chamar (name changed for privacy purposes).                (me and...

The Real Problem

This week I struggled with not feeling content in fulfilling my purpose in India.  At the end of a mission trip it’s easy to become susceptible to insecurities from the Father of Lies that I didn’t do all I could do, and will soon be forgotten. I am continuing to surrender these lies to the Lord!  Our team has formed some friendships outside the Home, but the language barrier has been the main deterrent from evangelism. Or at least I thought it was.  This week I was struck by the conviction: Olivia, if there was no language barrier would you have done anything...

Our Part in the Great Commission

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”-Matthew 28:18-20 These verses, the Great Commission, are probably read and meditated on by every missionary. They are the reason to be a missionary. Jesus’ last words before He left earth. The emphasis is often on the go and make...

Interruptions

When I think about what I’ll miss most about my time in India, it’s hard to pinpoint one thing. Will I miss the boys? Of course. The food? Perhaps. Rickshaw rides? Without a doubt. Mosquito nets? Eh. Bartering? YES. But if I truly think about what I will miss the most, I would have to say it’s the interruptions.   Not so much the kind that cut you off in conversation, but rather the kind of interruptions that happen all for the glory of God. It’s been awesome to see how God has worked unplanned ministry in the midst of our planned ministry. I specifically think of Peter and...
