Bodily Functions and Flirting

Here is a culture story for all of you back home!  First, the story.  Then, some cultural notes to shed some light on why this was blogworthy. 🙂   STORY TIME!!!   This wonderful team of 21 girls is split into two groups of about 10 girls each. The team that I am on goes to dinner twice a week just to get away and build team unity.  This usually consist of invading a local food establishment, ordering some food, prayer, deep talks about anything and everything (Legit: one of my team leaders warned us about constant talks about bodily...

Confessions of an Addict

“Hi, my name is Roxy and I have a problem with being independent.” (Major props if you said “Hi Roxy” back to the screen that you are reading this off of)     This would be one of the first things I would say at an Independence Anonymous  (if such a thing ever existed).  No, I do not have a problem with wanting to be independent.  Honestly, that is one of the most common compliments that I received (shortly followed after “You smile a lot” and “You’re such a great friend.”).  I have...

Stars over India

India is a dark place. Spiritually there is little to no Christians here, Christians make a whopping 4% of all of the population. Down the road from us is a giant temple for one if the many Hindu gods that they worship. It is a tough environment for a Christian to thrive and do ministry. However, India is not only dark in the spiritual sense it is also literally dark.   When it gets dark out I automatically turn my head above me. I have always been baffled by the great expanse that is space. Not only because of the unknown but also because of its beauty and the way that God is...

A Team to Count On

So last week was pretty awful.. to say the least. Now looking back and talking about it is quite funny, but a few days ago I would have thought differently. Our team was hit with one of the worst stomach bugs I've ever seen. Not to be over dramatic in any way, this literally was just one of the worst sicknesses I've ever been apart of.  So. Thursday rolls by and suddenly one by one people were beginning to get sick. It wasn't too bad at first, you know, the usual stomach thing. Not something anyone would want, but still nothing too awful.  Then things began to...

God THE Covenant Keeper

Yesterday was uncomfortable for me. Actually really uncomfortable, and I woke up with a feeling that it would be. Our leaders have been pushing for us to go out and partake in village ministry for a long time. They have really wanted us to be able to go out and share the gospel in words, rather than actions. They used that big scary word we all like to avoid…. EVANGELIZE. And if I'm honest I had been hoping to avoid that type of ministry. Give me street kids and the orphanage any day of the week, and I can love on them well and through exhaustion. But hand me a mike and ask me to...

Nice body…

God is so sweet and good when he speaks to me.    Ok so here it is– vulnerability– my sometimes silly feelings on a flag for the world to see…     For anyone that knows me deeply (like even the ugly parts of me) you know I have two pathetic problems: comparison and discouragement. And because of these I often feel a lot of pressure to be someone "better"… and cry.   I see people like my superwoman mom, fun God-loving girls on my team here in India, and other spiritual, wise people in my life who are described often with words...
