I Just Don’t Care!

I Just Don’t Care  It’s the moment you don’t scream when there is a spider on your bed or around your bed. It’s the moment when you don’t freak out at the trail of ants leading to the spider that you killed earlier. (They did leave a nice clean spot after. They know how to clean there plates. 🙂 ) And it’s the moment you don’t have a spaz attack when a lizard enters your suitcase. It’s the moment when you just don’t care. You just don’t care that you may not have water for a shower, you just don’t care whether or not yo...

Moldable

The Lord has definitely been working on my heart here in India this past month. I just want to share with some of you some of the ways he has been sanctifying me to become more and more like him. 1.       1. He has been teaching me how to listen. Not to tune him out when he is tugging at my heart. To create an open dialogue with him. To be more intentional about listening rather than telling. That listening to him isn’t as hard as we make it out to be. It is a discipline to be learned. We just have to be okay with the silence and quieting the clamoring...

Look at our lives…

By the looks of my title, you may think this is a serious, insightful blog. Although I do encourage you to take a step back and take a look at your life, this blog is not serious. I realized I haven’t shared much about what life is like here in India. We love India, but amidst the circumstances in which we live, my team and I often find ourselves doing things that we wouldn’t normally, followed by the statement Look at our lives… such instances include but are not limited to:  accidentally putting what you thought was baby powder down your clothing, only to realize… it...

You might be in Calcutta if…

You might be in Calcutta if …. You constantly smell like sour baby milk from sweating profusely You wake up raging with itch in the middle of the night from bugs (ants, roaches, mosquitoes, things we don’t know the name of…) You rejoice at the sight of a rain cloud Much of your prayer and supplication has to do with asking God to turn the power back on People almost run into a pole from staring at you You douse yourself in baby powder daily It’s natural to grab a friend and start picking through their hair for lice You wear clothes that cover your legs in 100+ degree weather You are...

God? Yes, God

Okay, I really really need to talk about God and Christianity for just a minute. It’s long but stay with me. Three themes: God wants us, We need God, Life as a Christian  I would like to preface this whole thing with a verse: Philippians 3: 12 – 13 “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Friends, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it.   God wants us I was sitting here in India one morning on our day off in the coffee shop. I had this...

Much MORE Than 2 Months

As I write this (originally I wrote this in my journal, I typed it up later) I am sitting on the porch at the boys’ home, watching them play on the throw throw field (throw throw is a very fun dodgeball-type game). I’m sweating (because it’s India, it’s a given) and probably don’t smell the best. Other than that, life is pretty good. I know all of the boys by name, and they me. I have seen them cry and laugh. God has given me the gift of truly being content with this place, these boys, and this gift I have to focus solely on loving them well. However, I can’t help but have in...
